I listened to a Black man talk about how he was in pain,
but didn’t want other people to see that he was in pain.
He was used to being the source of strength and support for other people.
It was hard for him to accept support even though he needed it.
It was hard for him because he wanted to remain strong for
the people who relied on him, but didn’t want to appear weak
for needing help for his pain.
This dilemma is why so many Black men delay
visiting a doctor until they are in severe pain.
By the time they admit they are in pain,
it is because the pain has become unbearable for them.
The struggle to be strong is common for Black men.
You can be strong and still need support.
You can be strong and still be vulnerable.
You can be strong and still be in pain.
You can be strong and still seek help.
Stop struggling and start getting the support you need.
Build your support network if you don’t have one already.
If you are in pain, get the help you need to relieve your pain.
Ask for help when you need it.
You may have other people depending on you for support,
but make sure you have other people you can depend on to support you.
The Black Men Healing Circle is designed to be a source of support for Black men.
Join other Black men at the Black Men Healing Circle Fall Gathering to
fellowship and support each other in a safe space. A safe space dedicated
to helping Black men receive healing, inspiration and self-care.
