I heard a person say that healed Black men won’t show up to healing events.
This is another type of comment that contributes to the mental health stigma in the
Black community due to the misunderstanding of what “healing” is or should be.
First of all, life is a healing journey. Every human “being” is on a “healing” journey.
You Will Always Be On A Healing Journey.
There are too many Black men suffering in silence because they have been
conditioned to suppress their emotions. They think that “real” men are “hard”
and don’t ask for help or support.
They will say that “I am alright” when they really need support.
They feel that they are completely healed because they think the
only people in need of healing are sick people or mentally ill people.
This type of thinking results in a lot of Black men having a diminished quality
of life, and never reaching their full potential because it is limited thinking.
There is no such thing as a completely healed human being,
because you will always have healing experiences throughout your life.
Your healing experience may be grieving the death of a loved one.
Your healing experience may be recovering from a divorce.
Your healing experience may be recovering from an illness.
Your healing experience may be finally finding a tribe of men
who support you after feeling alone for so many years.
Your healing experience may be working with a therapist to heal
from your childhood trauma that is hindering your success as an adult.
It is time to change what healing looks like in the Black community.
Healing looks like growth.
Healing looks like finally unpacking the emotional baggage that
has been weighing you down for too many years.
Healing looks like asking for help when you need it.
Healing looks like being vulnerable enough to receive support from other people.
Healing looks like having the courage to walk away from toxic situations
and people because you know you deserve better.
Healing looks like overcoming obstacles to fulfill your purpose in life.
Healing looks like showing up to healing events for Black men because you
want support and encouragement wherever you are on your healing journey.
The Sid Center has a lot of healing experiences planned for Black men in 2023,
including the Black Men Healing Circle and new Black Men Healing Brunch series.
