One of the hardest battles you will fight in life is achieving the goal of
creating the life of your dreams. Black men have a lot of battles to fight in life.
The battle against racism. The battle to be seen and heard. The battle to feel appreciated.
All of these battles are a part of the war for the minds of Black men.
Whatever controls your mind controls your life.
The constant battle to gain control can be subtle until you notice your
unwanted thoughts and behavior. It can be as subtle as an automatic
negative thought convincing you that you can’t achieve a new career goal.
The media is a powerful weapon in the war for the minds of Black men.
The images we see in the media have a powerful impact on our minds.
Those images can subtly shape our beliefs and behaviors.
One of the ways you can win the war for your mind is to be more conscious
of your mental consumption. It can be as simple as being more conscious of
scrolling past images on social media, because some of those images are
powerful enough to stay on your mind.
The image of Will Smith slapping Chris Rock has quickly become a popular meme.
It is also a powerful image because years after the incident, it will represent an
act of violence between two wealthy middle aged Black men.
Men who were old enough to know better.
It is important for Black men to know that you deserve better regardless of the
images you see of Black men in the media. You deserve the opportunity to create
the life of your dreams. You deserve the right to transform your life at any time.
You deserve to feel valued.
Knowing you deserve better is a crucial step to winning the war for your mind.
